The real big question this season is this: Who the hell is Talisa?? We faithful readers of Asoiaf we expected a certain Jeyne Westerling, what happened? But above all we will discover that in reality is Talisa Jeyne undercover??
This change was probably the stupidest thing they have done IMO. OK, make her lowborn, I can live with that. Make her and Robb in wuv ( I'll be honest, I strongly disliked their fluffy moments.) despite the fact that robb married her because he already slept with her and was his duty and they fell in love love later. But why did they change her name too? Would Jeyne Westerling from Volantis would be any different? Or why would she be from Volantis at all? Why not Westeros? Grrrrr HBO pisses me off.
Supposedly the directors of the show didn't like/find it believable the reasons why Robb married Jeyne (jeopardizing and condemning the fate of his followers and family over a one night stand, or marrying a sassy suffragette from Volantis for love?)
I doubt it. I suppose that Jane won't play such a big role in the other books as we all thought, so it was safe for Martin and the makers of the show to replace her with Talisa. But yeah, I understand you, when she first appears and till the end of season 2 I was like "Ok, this is all well, but Jane will come nay minute. Right? RIGHT?"
Maybe they changed Jeyne with Talisa because of :SPOILER for AFFC: the theory of the narrow/wide hips. Maybe because we don't know the truth yet (if the Jeyne Westerling Jaime found at Riverrun is the real one) the producers just put another irrelevant character in hger place? Just a thought... Oh and that was my reaction when I saw that scene too
Pissed me off. I liked Jeyne much more than Talisa... I don't like how they are changing details like this in the show, at least True Blood admits they are changing the books! (I however do like that they didnt kill Laffyette...)
I think they did it so that people wouldn't wonder why Robb was marrying the daughter of a Lannister bannerman. Am I the only one who found her annoying? I was totally on board with Cat trying to pull the plug on the marriage.
and it gets worse season by season. There were some moments in the fourth season that in the books were much better done, and in the show they changed them and butchered them so bad I wanted to go all Ramsay at the writers.
I know she isn't Jeyne and it will cause some differences from the books later on, but you have to admit if it was exactly like the book it wouldn't be as interesting, and we would hardly even see Robb this season anyway! Also I like Talisa, she's kind hearted and show's Robb that not everyone who fights for the Lannisters supports them. Her character will still serve the same purpose in the end though. A broken vow with the Frey's. So look at her a character from the TV Series and not a comparison to the books.
I KNOW!!! i mean come on!!! where the hell Talisa came from!? I wanna see Jeyne Westerling and Robb, not some chick from Volantis... Volantis?? Really? could the have picked some place far and unknow to the whole saga?? I just dont get, and I think that the fact that she is Jeyne Westerling is escential for the plot points to come... dont know how they will manege to unreavell the story with Talisa....
We have to remember that this is a TV show and it's told for people who haven't read the books. If they had kept book Jeyne, then that brings in her family and especially her mother making a certain deal with a certain someone. That would be a bit confusing so they're simplifying that element of the plot. Why they just didn't call her Jeyne from Volantis, I don't know.
THANK YOU. I'm glad this whole Talisa/Jeyne thing is bothering someone else! I was really looking forward to seeing Robb and Jeyne get together, since we don't get to hear much about it in the book, but then out of nowhere comes this bizarre woman D: she just seems so unnecessary - would it really have stretched the budget so much to call her Jeyne instead?
I so totally agree!!! Where the hell are Meera and Jojen?? I mean is Bran just going to magically find his way to the three-eyed raven? And what's up with this Talisa?? I really do hope she is Jeyne undercover!! I mean, I don't mind minor changes, or even one big change from time to time, but please HBO don't pile them up!!! (I mean they've already changed some things over on dany's side of things!).
PS: for meera and Jojen, maybe they ran out of money for new actors lol.
Yeah, I was kind of annoyed too, but Robb in the second book was kind of a secondary character and Jeyne was introduced kind of suddenly too. I like that the directors choose to deepen Robb's story. That way his love will make the "consequences" (Red Wedding) even more powerful in the thrird season and they made Robb a more main character. Adding Jeyne in the middle of a war would have been wierd so Talisa it is then At least her appearence makes sense in the battlefield xD
I totally agree with you anyway I still do not see why not introduce jeyne westerling, which above all is a subjugated to the Lannister family and this would make it more attractive anchors the story, while Talisa no sense
